Music by The Piano Brothers

David Edward Saylor, 48, of the Cherokee Community went home to be with his heavenly family on December 28, 2019.  He passed unexpectedly following a brief illness.

David was the son to the late Chittle Saylor and  Christine E. (Benbow) Saylor Lossiah.  David made his way as a care provider and home maker for his nieces and nephews. He was loved by his family.  David suffered with Osteochondroma and diabetes  but he always tried to keep a good spirit.  He wrote constantly and was very good at poems, short stories and song lyrics.  He loved reading and he absolutely loved 1980’s pop music, And, he had a special place in his heart for Dolly Parton.  He loved the North Carolina Tarheels.  David didn’t get to attend Church as often as he liked but his Faith was strong.  You only had to but glance at his social media presence to see this.  His loss leaves siblings in mourning and although he had no children of his own he loved his Nieces and Nephews as much as you love your children.  They too suffer his departure.

Along with his parents David is preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Ware; grandfather, Albert L. Benbow; aunt Diane Nelson and his Step-Dad Charles Verlin Lossiah who he loved greatly.

David is survived by his siblings, Michael Saylor (Ruth) of Las Vegas, NV; Christana Martin (Bruce, Jr.) of Cherokee, NC; Daniel Saylor (Frieda) of Cherokee, NC; Albert Saylor (Abby) of Sylva, NC; Chittle Saylor of Ela, NC; Neil Saylor of Madison, IN and Clint Lossiah (Courtney) of Cherokee, NC; four Nieces and 11 Nephews. Along with his North Carolina family David also leaves behind one uncle, Albert Benbow of Trail Creek IN; aunts, Bonnie Hardebeck of Michigan City, IN, Viola Lane of West Port, IN and Evelyn Beaty of Little Rock, AR. And, his grandmother, Helen (Head) Benbow of North Vernon, IN. Also many cousins throughout the United States.

David will have a visitation on Thursday, January 2, 2020 in the Chapel of Long House Funeral Home in Cherokee, NC from 12PM to 2PM where the family will receive friends.  A funeral will follow starting at 2PM with the Rev. James “Bo” Parris officiating.  An immediate burial will take place at Paris Cemetery in the Dillsboro Community with the Pall Bearers being among David’s Brothers.

Long House Funeral Home assisted the family in the final arrangements.

This saddens me very greatly. I had been looking for David online as I thought he was just doing his own thing. He and I have always been close and I will miss him dearly. This is a total shock and very terrible news. I’m very sorry for his family’s loss. His loss will certainly take a toll on me. I had a feeling of this but hoped it was wrong and that I was just being silly. Unfortunately this is not the case. Anyway, I’m terribly sorry and David I will always love and miss you deeply.
