John Wayne Rose, Jr., 72, of Cherokee passed away on March 31, 2011 at Cherokee Indian Hospital following an extended illness.  He was a carpenter and was a veteran of U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Joann Rose; his children, Debra Rose Slee of Cherokee, James Rose and wife Connie of Cherokee, Joyce Rose Justice and husband Barry of Kingstree, South Carolina, and his mother, Elsie Kimsey of Whittier; sisters, Lillian Shetley and husband Don, Wanda Weldon and husband Barry, and Frieda Wright and husband Bud. He is also survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Rose.

The body will be taken to Bethabera Baptist Church at 6 PM on Saturday April 2, 2011 for visitation where it will remain until the service hour of 1 PM on Sunday April 3, 2011. The Rev. Eddie Sherrill will officiate.  Pall bearers will be family members.
